12 Best Wedding Venues in the Greenbrier Valley and Potomac Highlands (2026 Guide)

·7 min read

This is West Virginia's mountain resort country, and it contains both the most expensive wedding you can have in the state and one of the cheapest.

The Greenbrier, in Lewisburg, is a National Historic Landmark resort with grand ballrooms and a chapel, and it has been the state's marquee wedding address for generations. About 130 miles northeast, beside the Cacapon River, the Appalachian Wedding Chapel will marry you on a bridge for $275.

We have combined two regions in this guide because neither has the venue count to carry one alone: the Greenbrier Valley returned six relevant venues and the Potomac Highlands thirteen. Together they form a coherent market anyway, high-elevation mountain country where the wedding is a destination and the guests stay the weekend.

We cataloged 19 wedding venues across the Greenbrier Valley and Potomac Highlands. Below are the 12 we would point a couple to first.

For the statewide picture, see how much a West Virginia wedding costs, and for timing, the best months to get married in West Virginia.

Quick context on pricing here

Statewide, published West Virginia wedding venue packages have a median starting price of $3,900, with half the market between $2,875 and $5,625.

The Greenbrier Valley returned zero venues with a published wedding package above our floor, and the Potomac Highlands returned one. That is the thinnest published-pricing coverage of any region in this four-state cluster, and it is the direct result of the region's character: destination resorts quote by proposal, and the small properties are elopement specialists priced below the floor.

There is no median on this page because there is no honest way to produce one. Expect to send inquiry forms.

The resorts

1. The Greenbrier

A historic luxury resort in Lewisburg with grand ballrooms, rustic lodges, and a chapel. Pricing is available by event RFP only.

The Greenbrier is the most significant wedding venue in West Virginia and one of the best-known in the American South. It is also a genuinely different order of expense from everything else on this page or in our state cost guide, whose $3,900 median describes the working middle of the market and explicitly not this. Plan to negotiate a proposal rather than compare a rate card.

2. Canaan Valley Resort State Park

A mountain resort in Davis with 160 guest rooms, cabins, and more than 25,000 square feet of event space, at above 3,200 feet elevation. Pricing by RFP.

State-park-operated resorts are consistently among the best value in any state, and this one has the largest block of on-site lodging of any venue in this guide. For a wedding weekend where everyone stays together in the high country, it is the most practical answer in West Virginia.

Note that Canaan is a ski resort in winter, so December through March is high season rather than low.

3. Grandview Cottages

A mountain-top destination venue in Greenville with an outdoor pavilion, panoramic views, and on-site luxury cottage lodging, capacity to 200. Pricing after inquiry; a $500 non-refundable deposit holds the date, with payment plans available up to 10 days before the wedding.

Payment plans at a destination property are unusual and worth knowing about.

The Greenbrier Valley

4. Valley View Farm

A historic red barn in Lewisburg with mountain views and an eight-acre field for ceremonies and photographs. The barn holds up to 300 for ceremony, reception, and cocktail hour under one roof, which removes the flip and the weather problem in one move.

The largest capacity in the Greenbrier Valley outside The Greenbrier itself.

5. Stone Manor on Lake Haven

A luxury bed and breakfast and event venue in Lewisburg built around a restored historic barn on 200 wooded acres, offering exclusive use plus accommodation, capacity to 300. No event pricing published.

Exclusive use of 200 acres with rooms on site is the destination-wedding format, and Lewisburg itself is one of the most attractive small towns in Appalachia.

6. The Pines Wedding & Event Venue

A newly constructed family-owned venue in Crawley on 13 acres of pine, farmland, and mountain views, with indoor and outdoor ceremony options and reception space to 250. They advertise a comprehensive package with all listed services included and no hidden fees, with pricing behind an inquiry link.

In a region where nothing is published, a venue whose pitch is one all-in number is worth an early call.

7. A Touch of Grace by Running Creek

A 30-acre horse farm in Ballard offering all-inclusive packages, venue-only rentals, and full wedding planning, capacity to 100, with a chapel and a pub on the property. Pricing on request.

A chapel and a pub on the same farm is a genuinely complete small-wedding setup.

The Potomac Highlands

8. Graceland Inn & Henry's Restaurant

A historic Victorian mansion on the Davis & Elkins College campus in Elkins, with event space, on-site dining, and lodging. The most architecturally distinguished indoor room in the Highlands, and the campus setting makes guest logistics simple.

9. Puesta Del Sol Farm

A Tuscan-inspired farm venue in Yellow Spring, about 20 minutes from Winchester, Virginia, with indoor and outdoor spaces and on-site accommodation. Package prices are not listed, but they note that the two-day Moonlight package includes day-of coordinator services valued at $3,500.

That is a large included service. The Winchester proximity also means this venue competes for Northern Virginia couples, so expect Virginia-adjacent pricing.

10. Brookedale Farm

A family-owned farm in Fort Ashby with The Stadell, a year-round event building. Year-round matters at these elevations, where several venues are seasonal.

11. Lost River Barn

A converted mountain barn and vacation rental in Mathias that has hosted weddings and private group events. Pricing on request. The Lost River valley is one of the quietest and prettiest corners of the state.

The value end

12. The Appalachian Wedding Chapel & Boutique

A small elopement and micro-wedding chapel beside the Cacapon River in Capon Bridge, with indoor and outdoor ceremonies, capacity 2 to 25. Published:

Adventure packages from $275 for a short bridge ceremony up to $1,750 for train or kayak elopement packages.

A kayak elopement is exactly what it sounds like. At $275 this is the cheapest published wedding ceremony in the four states this cluster covers, and for a couple who want to get married on a river in the Appalachians with a handful of people watching, it is close to perfect.

Also: Phil Gainer Community Center

A city-run facility in Elkins with a large multi-purpose room, meeting room, kitchen, and parking. Fully published and genuinely cheap:

  • Meeting room: $400 for 4 hours or $900/day weekend, $400/day weekday
  • Nonprofit and civic rates $300 / $700, youth and community $200 / $500
  • Chairs and tables included in the fee
  • Add-ons: kitchen $100, multimedia $50, chair setup $10 per 30 chairs, table setup $10 per cart of 10, pipe and drape $100

A full weekend day at $900 with chairs and tables included is the budget answer for the Highlands.

How to shop mountain West Virginia

Understand the elevation and the season. Canaan Valley and the high country sit above 3,200 feet and run 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the rest of the state. That makes June and July genuinely excellent here when they are difficult everywhere else, and it makes April and early May unreliable, with snow possible into the first half of May.

Remember that winter is high season at the ski resorts. Canaan is a ski destination. A February wedding there is peak rate, not a bargain, and the mountain roads are a real consideration for guests driving in.

Foliage peaks earliest here. The first week of October in the high country, working down and out from there. If your date is built around fall colour, ask each venue when peak typically falls at their elevation.

Send inquiries early and in volume. This is the least-published region in the least-published state we have measured. You will not shortlist online. Send RFPs to everything you like the look of and compare the proposals that come back.

Take the on-site lodging seriously. Canaan's 160 rooms, Grandview's cottages, Stone Manor's accommodation, Puesta Del Sol's rooms. Hotel supply in mountain West Virginia is thin and scattered, and a venue that houses your guests is solving your hardest problem, not offering a luxury.

Our venue checklist and the questions to ask on a venue tour cover the rest, and what a wedding venue costs puts these numbers in national context.
